Just a quick note to say that I survived the surgery but my gall bladder did not.
I got more darvoset for the pain. But let me tell you, when they let you double them up, it's loopyville for the rest of the day. I've switched back to one at a time because the pain has subsided and I don't like feeling totally out of control.
Right now I'm sitting home bored. Actually, I'm more lying down than sitting because it hurts to sit properly since its squeezing on where my organ used to be.
The first three days were horrid, despite being waited on hand and foot. Now everyone's gone back to work and I'm BORED yet too sore to go back to work. Maybe I'll start reading my textbooks for next week.
I'm still on a low fat diet and I've lost two more pounds (one probably being the stone-filled gall bladder itself).
The best part of the hospital trip was the cold Vernor's ginger ale and graham crackers the nurse brought me after surgery. I don't know why but it made me feel like I was 5 years old and very comforted, something my mom would have done when I was little. I don't know if you're familiar with Vernor's, but in the MidWest, Vernor's is a must when you have the stomach flu - or any other ailment for that matter!
Other than the Vernor's, getting an organ removed is not fun, but I guess it could have been worse.

Glad you survived! I hated having mine out (but am glad I did, of course), and was bored out of my mind, too. I didn't get darvocet - I got vicodin, which was also boring; no loopiness, no excitement, just some reduction in pain. (So much for all the fuss about pain killers!) Anyway, hope you feel better soon!!
I hope you recover quickly!!
Vernor's must have some sort of medicinal properties that should be more fully explored by science.
I'm curious about why it's okay to eat fat again after the gall bladder is gone. But don't worry...I'll google it. Two people that I know IRL are dealing with the absolutely-no-fat, gall stones, gonna have surgery thing. So glad you've at least gotten the surgery part out of the way. Are you feeling any better? Able to sit up yet?
The body learns to process fat in a new way so once the bad gall bladder is out, the body can start learning to do this. Unfortunately, it's a slow process, so no greasy cheeseburgers yet for me.
I am able to sit up but it's still uncomfortable. But I'll get there soon.
